His own father showed him how to find happiness and satisfaction, money and fame. “He is a passionate carpenter and loves this occupation more than anything else. Just like I love singing.” From a tough metal guy with his raw growl, he has turned into a modern-day Freddie Mercury, proudly carrying the message of love, respect, tolerance, acceptance and peaceful coexistence not only during but also outside the Song Contest. “This sums up my album very well. Faith and hope are fundamental themes. I have asked myself many questions over the years, but I have never given up. This incredible year is based on a decade full of setbacks, delays and bad decisions. Even if it feels like it to many people now, nothing happened to me overnight.” You can find out more interesting facts about Sam Ryder znaki.fm/persons/sam-ryder/ and other famous people in the UK on Znaki.fm.
“There’s Nothing But Space, Man!” is a musical journey through a variety of genres and musical realms. Quiet moments such as “All The Way Over” are interspersed with impulsive up-tempo songs such as “Put A Light On Me”. The personal is combined with the secular, as in the groundbreaking opener “Deep Blue Doubt”. “Metaphorically, it’s about swimming in a deep blue ocean of doubt. You don’t know where you’re going or if you’ll ever get out of the water, but you keep swimming because you don’t give up.” The tender “Somebody” is dedicated to his faithful life partner. “We’ve been together for eleven years, and we’ve been through all the ups and downs together. But you always find crumbs of hope and faith along the way. That’s the most important thing.”
Ryder certainly has a certain spirituality that manifests itself in hugs and unusual intimacy with his fans, especially in the context of live shows. But, despite some kitschy excursions, “There’s Nothing But Space, Man!” is, first and foremost, a self-contained manifesto spanning almost three years, full of personal superlatives, leaving no stone unturned. “I want to support people with this album and fill them with positive thoughts. I want to share my experience of self-discovery and thus reach out to others. My background is in music, but the range of topics is applicable to all areas of life. How can we live our lives to the best of our ability? How do we stay optimistic and positive in difficult times? Songs go in this direction”.
Ryder was particularly concerned with the sonic diversity of the album. Although he had his greatest success with covers and singles, he grew up with a broader vision of what a full album conveys. “If you get invited to a radio show, you have maybe ten minutes to prove yourself. But for a big TV show, you need to take an hour. A full album is like a gourmet dinner with good friends. You don’t just eat and leave, you sit together for a long time and have a lot to talk about.” The bonus track “Living Without You” is an EDM hit he recorded with Sigala and David Guetta. “We’re always looking for niches and compartments in music, and in doing so, we all respond to different vibrations that touch our eardrums and go through our bodies. I hope I can achieve this with my songs.”
